PEOPLE ARE SEXIST ASSHOLES
A Rant
I'm not sexist. That makes me rather unique out of the appromately 6.5 billion people that live on this planet. Before I begin this rant, I'd like to first clarify some things.
wom·an [woom-uhn]

2. an adult male person
sex·ism [sek-siz-uhm]
-noun

2.discrimination or devaluation based on a person's sex, as in restricted job oppurtunities
Let's review. Women are adult females. Men are adult males. I'll add in the definitions to male and female, just to further prove my point.

Now, let's see. The only real differance between men and women is basically that women have vaginas and breasts, men have penes, and each has a slightly different combination of hormones. Well, goddamn. I, for the life of me, can't see anywhere in that definition where it says “better than women/men” or “should be more respected.” I just don't see it.
I was at work one night and I got into a debate with a friend named Will. The debate was really about two things. The first was whether people are born with their personality decided by genetics or environment. I said that the only reason women are “feminine” is because they're raised that way. He says no. Well..psh.
Anyway, sexism. Will basically said that women should be respected more than men, basically because women are more sensitive. I refuse to believe that. First of all, women are more sensitive and emotional. It's called estrogen. It's a fact. However, don't see, on any level, how that should mean that they are RESPECTED MORE.
A few women got into the argument with basically the same idea. Men don't deserve as much respect as women. Diane, another co-worker, even said in a serious tone that “All men are dogs” and therefore don't reserve respect. Because, of course, all women are just pink fucking roses.
Will even gave thw example that men shouldn't swear in front of women. I admit, this is something I've done for a long time, but I'm trying to break the habit. Fuck them. I told Will I was raised that way to which Diance replied “What happened then?”
“I realized it was stupid and sexist” I replied.
It is. First of all, though this is a different debate altogether, I see nothing wrong with swear words. I have yet, in my entire life, had anyone or read anything that could tell me why certain words are bad. Answers such as “the Bible says so” are bullshit. I want a real reason. Anyway, back to my point. I see nothing wrong with swearing and don't see it as disrespectful. If it bothers someone all they have to do is tell me, and I don't swear when they're around. It's pretty fucking simple, to be honest. Sufficed to say, I left my coworkers with a new perspective on me: disresepctful asshole.
I'd like to continue, beyond our little debate at work. It's sexist to treat women (or men) different IN ANY WAY because they're of a different sex. I don't. Ever. Example time.
Women love it when you open the door for them because it's sweet/cute/gentlemanly. Guess what. If you do it for a woman and not a man, you're a sexist asshole. I hold the door open for women, sure. I hold it open for men too, though.
I asked Andy at work last night: “If your ten-year old son wanted to watch a movie about ballarinas, would you let him?”
His reply: “Hell no! I'd slap him upside the head!”
That's sexist. I'm sorry. If my son wants to watch goddamn ballarinas or fucking ice skating or chick flicks or other so-called things that are directed at women, he can. I'd think it was stupid, but that's nothing to do with being a man.
In reverse, Andy once told me that if his son ever seduced a teacher while he was in, say, middle school, he would pat him on the back. Congratulate him. Take him to get a burger. Guess what would happen if his daughter of the same age did this. You may have guessed: slapped upside the head. How can that not be understood as sexist?
Will asked me if I think women should have to go into combat. My answer is that if they sign up to be in the goddamn army/navy/whatever, they should have to go into combat like anyone else. If you don't want to go into combat, don't fucking sign up. That's simple. He further asked if I think women should be drafted. I said no. He smiled. I continued by saying it's because I don't think ANYONE should be drafted, unless there is a national emergency. He stopped smiling. So, he tried to trip me up by saying women shouldn't be in combat because if they get captured there's the chance they could be raped, which while this technically could happen to a man, the man couldn't become pregnant. If the woman were held long enough, the life of the baby would also be at the hands of the enemy. I admit, there's that chance. But guess what: SHE FUCKING VOLUNTEERED. I'm not saying that wouldn't be terrible, but it's a chance women should be willing to take if they're in the military. If they're not willing, they shouldn't have taken the fucking oath.
Now, I would like to make some points. IN GENERAL Women are smarter. Men are stronger. Women are more emotional. Men have penes. Men and women ARE different. However, these differences don't make EITHER gender better than the other. Women are naturally smarter and learn more easily, but guess what: I'm smarter than any woman I've ever met (well, any man too, actually). Men are naturally stronger and can more easily build muscle but guess what: most women I know could probably win against me in arm wrestling. Sure, there are weaknesses and strong points in both sexes, but that doesn't mean they're better. If men and women would learn to apply themselves, they would be better off. I'm just sick of women wanting equality as long as it's convienant. The same could be said of any sterotype. People want to be considered equal as long as it doesn't hinder you.
